In cultivating the eye to see typography in unusual forms, letters can be transformed into visual expressions, creating new designs and meaning to text.

By utilizing an Eastern Hemlock branch, dots of ink were expanded into various lines, letting the needles create the forms themselves. In seeing the marks as living creatures, branching out and moving, I manipulated the marks to form the inspired word Onodrim, the Elvish name for a tree-like species from J. R. R. Tolkien’s world of Middle Earth.
